First Trip To The Cabin

We went up to my parents cabin in WI this past weekend. We had great weather and spend the weekend relaxing and enjoying family. My parents are building the cabin themselves and it is nearly completed. It is beautiful inside and out. I could only hope to live in a house that beautifully built much less a cabin!

First Cub's Game

Today we took Kate to her first Cub's game. Not only was it her first time at Wrigley Field, but she also got to see some baseball history in the making. Barry Bonds hit 2 home runs during the game. He hit homerun numbers 752 and 753 putting him just shy of the record of 755. We had a great time and even went out to dinner afterward. Kate loved watching all the people and making new friends (as usual) with those seated around us. She did get startled by the roar of the crowd when we first got in our seats and starting crying, but was quickly back to herself after a little walk around the stands. She eventually crashed toward the end of the game despite the noise.

Visit From a Friend

My friend and college roommate Leslie visited with her baby Eva who is 4 days older than Kate. It has been very fun to be pregnant together and having babies that are so close in age. So far we have seen many similarities in the stages they are in and what we are experiencing as moms until...the two babies met. When Eva arrived Kate was so excited that she began flapping her arms and shrieking. Eva...more cautious and shy by nature wasn't too fond of Kate's volume and enthusiasm. Kate wanted to reach out and grab Eva and most likely chew on her, and Eva wanted to check Kate out from a far. By the end of the day they warmed up to one another and had more of mutual interest in one another. Dean said he thought we got a glimpse of Kate's personality. I think these pictures demonstrate what I mean...

4 Month Check-up

We went to the pediatrician today for Kate's 4 month check-up. She is 25 inches long and weighs in at 13 lbs 8 oz. She did better with the shots this time not crying too much. She was showing off her new squeal for the doctor and grabbing instruments out of the doctors hands. The doctor was amazed at how active she was and said she was doing things that are normal for a 6 month old. (Smart girl!) She followed up that lavish praise with warning me she would be a very active child and that we as parents better be "ready" and would have our "hands full". Hmmm...I'm not sure what that means but I'm sure our moms enjoy the revenge.

Book recommendations.

I am close to finishing a book I've been reading, "The Know-It-All" by A.J. Jacobs. It is a non-fiction about a guy who read the entire Encyclopedia Britannica and wrote about how it fit into his everyday life. It is actually pretty funny, although not entirely "clean", but I would recommend it for a fun read. Previous to that I read "First-Time Mom" by Dr. Kevin Leman. He is a Christian psychologist and has also written "The Birth Order Book" which you may be familiar. It is a good read for any mom. I found it helpful, easy to read, and humorous. Anyway...I'm looking for another good read. Any suggestions?

Vacation to Door County

We just returned from a week long vacation to Door County, Wisconsin. We had a great time as a family at a resort in Egg Harbor called The Landmark. We spend most of our days by the pool reading and swimming and went out to dinner at night. Kate did remarkably well on her first vacation. Praise the Lord! I was a little worried how it might go, but she did great! Here are some pictures:
All packed up and ready to go!
