Diaper Duty
So in response to the person who commented that they would like to see Dean doing things other than sleeping with the baby, here is a picture of him changing a really bad diaper!

Magic Mirror
Kate slept in her crib last night...for most of the night. The magic mirror did it again! I laid her down at 10:30 and she slept until 2 am. Then I fed her and she fell back asleep again. After several trips to her room between 3am and 4 am I finally brought her to our room and she slept until 7:30am. I feel like we are making progress! She was a happy camper this morning. Trying to catch her smiles on camera is hard because the moment she sees the camera she freezes. This is the best I could do!

The bottom picture is the cute outfit she wore briefly to church on Sunday. I say briefly because after all the work of getting us both out of the house on time, no sooner did I get to church I had to leave because she decided to get squawky and fidgety during the sermon. So after all the effort of getting her dressed (and sacrificing a trip to Starbucks to do so) I wanted some people to appreciate the effort!

Mirror Time

One of Kate's favorite things to do right now is look at herself in the mirror. A friend who has two kids wisely gave me this crib mirror. Kate will stare at it for long periods of time. I hope this doesn't indicate the time she will spend in front of the mirror as a teenager!
Kate is now smiling and even starting to laugh a little. We are having a lot of fun with her getting her to smile. She even follows me with her eyes around the room and if I get too far out of sight she cranes her neck to find me. She is especially smiley in the morning and when she is on the changing table.

Sleeping
Kate is an excellent sleeper...with her daddy. Two nights ago they fell asleep together on the couch and I went to bed figuring Dean would bring her up later in the night. She slept until 7am! I felt like a new woman! Last night, when she was in her own bed, she was up several times and I barely got any sleep. It is really tempting to have her sleep with Daddy every night! Anyone have any tips? I guess I have to remember she is just a little over a month old.
Secret Service

Dean organized a special event for the youth group called Secret Service. The idea was the students came prepared to serve in the community not knowing exactly what they would be doing. As students arrived they received colored wristbands. They then boarded a bus or car according to their wristband color. At that time they were told where they would be serving. Serving projects ranged from playing games at area nursing homes to doing yard work to putting up signs for the American Cancer Society. The students had a blast. My group went to a nursing home and led bingo. It was really neat to see the students interacting with the residents. They even asked them to come back! The plan for the end of the evening was to bring the group back together and report on their experiences. Unfortunately, that plan was interrupted because the bus got stuck going under the overhang at one of the nursing homes. He ended up damaging one of the concrete pillars not to mention ripping a sizable whole in the side of the bus! The students were pretty amused by the situation. We then had to transport the students back to church with staff vehicles, after a lengthy police report was taken. I would hate to be the bus driver explaining that one to his bus company! Luckily, we were only 5 minutes from church. It's never boring!!

Updated settings.
I altered the settings so that if you want to post a comment you don't have to be an account holder. So comment away!
Rattle crazy.
Today we are going to go run some errands in this depressing snowy weather. How can it be almost 80 degrees two weeks ago and cold and snowing today? Only in Chicagoland!

Trial Run

So this is a trial run to see if I can keep up a blog. I thought it would be an easy way for our family to keep in touch with others without clogging up your inbox with more cute photos of Kate. My suggestion is to bookmark the page and check it when you feel like it. I will try to update at least once a week, but if I slack off let me know! To get started here is a photo of our Easter bunny Kate and one of her with Grandma's puppies.
